Analyses of web‑traffic patterns since mid‑2024 show traditional search referrals to major publishers have declined by double‑digit percentages after AI‑generated summaries were introduced, even as overall interest in news and information remains. That can make it look like interest is falling, even when the underlying demand has not.”
Valenzuela says this shift raises questions about how businesses measure visibility and demand in an environment where more decisions may be made before a click.
